Buses to and from Bergamo Airport (BGY)

Bergamo Airport, in Northern Italy, has a single terminal building which handles all international and domestic departures and arrivals. This airport is also more commonly known as Orio al Serio Airport, and is situated just 5 km from Bergamo, and 45 km from Milan. It is one of the three most important airports in this region. Passengers traveling to and from the airport can make use of the many bus services available, including ATB, Autostradale and Orioshuttle.

ATB Bus Transportation at Orio al Serio Airport

The ATB bus services are a convenient way to travel from Bergamo Railway Station to Orio al Serio Airport, and from the airport to Bergamo Station and the Upper Town of Bergamo. Buses are available directly outside the airport terminal, and travel every 30 minutes between the hours of 05:18 and 00:00.

There are a variety of tickets available for ATB bus passengers. One can purchase a 24 hour ticket which allows for one single and one return journey within the 24 hours that it is stamped, and the cost of luggage transport is included in the ticket price. Besides the direct Bergamo – Airport link, it also includes all the ATB services in the ‘urban area’. The second option is a 72 hour ticket, including luggage. This ticket is similar to the one mentioned above, but it is valid for 72 hours from the time it is stamped. The cheapest option is a timed ticket, which is valid for 90 minutes from the time of stamping, and allows one single journey on the direct Bergamo – Airport link, as well as the other ATB services in the ‘urban area’, which includes transport by the funicular trains.

ATB bus tickets can be purchased at the airport from the Autostradale desk in the arrivals area, or from the Turismo Bergamo desk (also in the arrivals area). At the airport bus stop, there is a ticket machine as well. If you are traveling to Orio al Serio Airport, tickets can be purchased from newsagent outlets at the railway station, or from the ticket machine at the Airport Bus stop. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Bus Station ticket office.

All ATB bus passengers must ensure that they have their relevant travel documents with them at all times, and all bus tickets must be stamped on board the buses. Passengers with non-stamped tickets could be liable for a fine. In general, children under two years of age who will not occupy a seat may travel for free. Parents are also allowed to bring a pram or pushchair on board the bus, and should then sit in the area available for passengers in wheelchairs. However, if this space is already occupied by disabled passengers, the pram or pushchair must be folded. Parents with prams and passengers in wheelchairs will enter the bus from its central door. Small dogs are allowed to be carried in the arms of their owners provided that they wear a muzzle, and all other animals should travel in a suitable container. Guide dogs may travel for free, regardless of their size, and they do not need to wear a muzzle. No smoking is allowed on the ATB Buses. More information is available from the ATB call center, at +39 035 236026, or from their website.
