Bari Airport Arrivals (BRI)
Bari International Airport is situated in the Puglia region of Italy. It is also known as Bari Palese Airport, as it is located in the neighborhood of Palese. The airport is only 8 km (5 miles) from the large port city of Bari, which is situated along the Adriatic coast in the southern region of Puglia. Puglia is often referred to as the ‘heel of Italy’s boot’, as it is the relatively flat, south-easterly tip of Italy.
Passengers arriving at Bari Airport will be greeted by a modern and well-equipped, single terminal building. This terminal building has been modified, improved and renovated several times since the airport came into existence, and most recently in 2007, when the terminal was completely upgraded, along with the construction of a new control tower and a multi-story car parking area. The passenger terminal now covers an area of over 30,000 square meters, and features many top-class retail outlets and restaurants. The airport is also well equipped for banking requirements, with the Banca Antonveneta and other ATMs situated within the terminal. In the Arrival’s Hall, passengers can claim for lost baggage and other items at the SEAP ‘Lost and Found’.
Disabled passengers, or reduced mobility passengers are welcomed at Bari Airport. Special assistance is provided by the airport staff once the passenger has landed, and help is provided through the processes of baggage collection and customs. Assistance is provided for the disabled passenger up until the time he or she is ready to leave the airport.
Passengers arriving at Bari Airport must ensure that they carry the correct identification documents, otherwise, they may be rejected at the local customs office. When enquiring what identification is needed, find out as well if any medical documentation is required. Children under the age of ten must be registered on their parent’s passport, but do not need a photo. Children between the ages of ten and sixteen must be registered on their parent’s passport and they also require a photo. From sixteen years of age the child should have his or her own personal identification document.
There are a few transportation options once you are ready to leave Bari Airport. If you would like to drive in your own car, there are car rental counters situated in the Arrivals Hall of the airport. Here you will find many quality car hire companies, such as Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Thrifty, Maggiore and Auto Europa, just to mention a few. Although they usually have vehicles available to rent, many customers prefer to ensure their selection by making a reservation in advance, from their preferred company’s website address.
Other options include by bus or taxi. There is no railway station at the airport. There are many taxis waiting outside of the Arrivals terminal, and it costs around €20.00 to reach Bari city center by taxi. Reputable taxi companies include Taxi Apulia, Radiotaxi and EuroTaxi. Remember as well that there could be additional charges for luggage, late-night services or driving on a Sunday and public holidays, and for more than four passengers. Buses available at Bari Airport include the Tempesta Buses and the AMTAB Buses. Both of these buses provide transport to the Central Train Station of Bari. Tempesta Buses provide a direct route, while the AMTAB Buses make a few stops along the way. Traveling by Tempesta Bus is a bit more expensive than with the AMTAB Buses. During the summer months, the Pugliairbuses provide connections to the other Puglia airports of Foggia, Brindisi and Taranto, as well as to other main cities in the Puglia region. This bus is a free service for all individuals who have an airline ticket or a firm reservation.
There are no hotels on site at Bari Airport, but there are some hotels in Bari, and also nearby the airport. The Mercure Bari V la Romanazzi Hotel is approximately 7 km from Bari Airport. It is rated as a three star hotel, and features a swimming pool, business center, family rooms, restaurant and other on-site recreation activities. Other hotels in Bari include the Best Western Hotel HR, located near the A14 motorway, the Palace Hotel, situated in the historical center of Bari, as well as the Hotel Boston and Hotel Victor, also situated in the city center.
Before leaving Bari Airport, more information about the surrounding area, tourist locations and cultural habits, can be obtained from the Totem Web Points in the terminal. These are touch screen computer displays which offer information on a variety of aspects relating to the airport and the Puglia region. Passengers can also make enquiries at the Information Desk in the Departures area.
