Getting to and from Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA)
Rome Ciampino Airport is located approximately 15km/9 miles from central Rome. The airport road is via Appia Nuova and is relatively easy to get to from anywhere in Rome. The airport is situated near to the highways Rome-Naples and Rome-L’Aquila, and the Rome city ring road (Grande Raccordo Anulare or GRA) leads to via Appia Nuova. Close to Ciampino Airport is Morena to the north-east and Cava dei Selci to the south.
Directions to Ciampino from the south of Rome
- Travel to via Appia Nuova by taking the GRA to the north.

- The GRA should be taken through La Pisana and to the south.
- From the GRA, take via Appia Nuova in the direction of Castelli Romani until reaching the airport.
Passengers often need to travel between Rome’s airports, Fiumicino and Ciampino. When leaving Fiumicino Airport, take the Fiumicino/Rome motorway to the GRA. From the GRA, take via Appia Nuova in the Castelli Romani direction.
Anyone travelling in from the motorways should take the Exit Roma-Sud to get to the GRA. Follow the GRA to via Appia Nuova, and then follow this road in the direction of Castelli Romani.
When driving from the South of the Lazio region, take via Appia Nuova in the direction of Rome.
Besides driving your own car to Ciampino Airport, there are other means of road transportation to the airport. The bus services of Terravision, Attral, SIT Airport Bus, COTRAL and Schiaffini travel regularly to the airport from the Termini Station, Anagnina Metro and Ciampino Train Station. There is no train station at Ciampino Airport, but a train can be taken to any of the above mentioned stations, and then a bus service to the airport. The facilities at Ciampino Airport are not as grand as the larger Fiumicino Airport, but it still has all the amenities that an airport requires. There are a few shops to browse and bars or coffee shops for eats and drinks. The airport has two bank branches, ATMs and currency exchange services. Other facilities include a First-aid station, a post office, lost and found offices and four information counters for any general airport enquiries.
