Florence Peretola Airport Arrivals (FLR)
Florence Airport is situated only 4 km from the city center of Florence, in the territory of Sesto Fiorentino, Italy. The airport consists of two terminal buildings, one dedicated to arrivals and the other to departures, and currently over one and a half million passengers pass through them each year. Florence is without a doubt situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany, and therefore many arriving passengers are visitors or tourists coming to enjoy the sights and attractions of the surrounding areas. This is an international airport, served by a large number of airline companies, and can be reached from any destination in the world.
This airport is also known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport, after a local Italian merchant and cartographer, or Peretola Airport, due to its location in Peretola. The terminal buildings are well equipped with all the amenities required by arriving passengers. There are banking services offered by the Banca Toscana, which is open from Monday to Friday from 08:20 to 13:30, and again between 14:25 and 15:45, as well as ATMs throughout the airport for more casual banking transactions. The Best and Fast Change offers currency exchange services, and they are open from 05:00 to 22:00. There is also a first aid station, lost property desk and left luggage facilities.
In the case where your baggage is damaged or lost, the airport staff will handle the problem in the best and most efficient manner possible. Their Lost and Found offices are located to the rear of the Arrivals terminal, and can be accessed from the main hall or from inside the baggage reclaim area. They are open from 08:30 to 20:00. The office makes use of the Worldtracer-Bahamas automated baggage finding system on behalf of the airline company, and their services include receiving complaints and finding lost baggage, managing lost baggage procedures for the first five days of waiting, home delivery of all ‘lost’ baggage belonging to passengers who live in the Florence area, and providing information on the status of missing baggage claims.
Business class passengers may use the services offered at the Masaccio VIP Lounge. There is a self-service bar area, newspapers and magazines in various languages, satellite television and an office area equipped with a computer, printer, multifunctional telephone and internet connections. In the Arrivals area of the airport there is also a spacious meeting or training room available, where catering services and presentation equipment can be arranged if necessary. Florence Airport can also provide a welcome service for your arriving business colleagues, in the form of a welcome desk in the baggage claim area of Arrivals.
The Arrivals terminal of Florence Airport is well equipped for the needs of disabled passengers, passengers with reduced mobility, or senior citizens who require extra assistance. There are disabled toilet facilities, an elevator to provide easy access to the upper levels of the airport, pavement ramps for passengers in wheelchairs and adapted telephone booths. Additional assistance can also be arranged through your airline company. Simply notify them of your requirements at the time of booking your plane ticket, or at least 48 hours before your departure flight. They will then ensure that there is someone ready for your arrival at the airport, and who will assist you with the procedures of customs and baggage collection, and up until the time you are ready to leave the airport, or have met up with friends or family members.
On the landside area of the terminal there are many interesting shopping outlets to keep you entertained while you wait for your friends to arrive. The Colli Toscani offers wine and food products, and wine tasting, while the Conte of Florence has a wide assortment of clothing and accessories. Tobaccos, books, CDs, tapes, DVDs and souvenirs can be purchased from Giunti al Punto, and Invista offers a nice selection of sunglasses, cameras and gifts. Throughout the airport there are many restaurants, cafes and bars offering all kinds of refreshments, ranging from light snacks and ice-cream to full-course meals.
Arriving passengers can choose from various transportation options when leaving Florence. There are comfortable, affordable and reliable bus services which offer transportation from the airport to the railway station in Florence (central train station known as the Santa Maria Novella Railway Station). A bus departs from the airport every half an hour, between the hours of 06:00 and 20:30, and every hour from 20:30 to 23:30. Since there is no actual train station at the airport, passengers who wish to continue their journey by train should make use of this bus service to reach the train station. The buses are operated by the company of Sita/ATAF. A taxi rank is available outside the airport’s Arrival terminal, and they are available to take you to any destination within Florence or the nearby surrounding areas.
There are no hotels at the airport, but there are many close by to the airport. A popular choice is the Hotel Franchi, which is only a mile from the airport, and offers 35 air conditioned rooms and a large breakfast area. Business passengers may find the Nord Firenze to be the ideal location, as this hotel offers nine large conference rooms that can each accommodate up to 300 people. Other hotels in the nearby vicinity of the airport include the Hotel Kraft, Best Western Hotel Rivoli, Hotel Diplomat, Italy Hotel Club Airport, Jolly Hotel Firenze and the San Gallo Palace Hotel. Many hotels offer complimentary transport to and from the airport as well, therefore, find out from your hotel if they have this service available when you book your accommodation, as it often requires an advanced reservation.
Another transport option is to hire a car from one of the many quality car rental companies present on site. Some of the car hire companies available include Avis, Sixt, Budget, National, Europcar, Easycar, Alamo, Thrifty, Auto Europa and Hertz.
