Genova Airport Arrivals (GOA)

Genoa Airport is also known as Cristoforo Colombo Airport, and handles international and domestic flight arrivals from a variety of different airline companies. The airport is only 6 km (4 miles) away from the Italian city of Genoa, and is also nearby to the areas of Arenzano, Pegli, Rapallo, Savona, Varazze and Voltri. To the north lie the towns of Borzoli, Cantalupo and Madonna del Gazzo, and the major motorway of the A10 / E25 (Autostrada dei Fiori) provides easy access to central Genoa, Piedmont, Lombardy and the Alps.

There is only one terminal building at Genoa Airport, and this terminal consists of a few levels. The upper level is strictly used for airport administrative purposes, while the first and second floors offer a variety of passenger amenities, and all departures are handled from the first level. The ground floor is dedicated to international and domestic arrivals, as well as baggage reclaim areas. There are a number of useful services and passenger facilities within the airport, including a bank, ATMs, currency exchange services, a post office, the Sala Genova Business Lounge, restaurants, bars and cafes, and a range of interesting shopping outlets. Additional business services, meeting rooms, and conference facilities are available at the Sheraton Hotel Genoa, which is located on the airport grounds. Here there is a conference room which is capable of accommodated up to 1,000 delegates.

The airport is fully equipped to welcome disabled and reduced mobility passengers. Their facilities include disabled toilets, internal and external lifts for moving between the terminal’s levels (equipped with buttons in Braille for visually impaired individuals), and pavement ramps. An elevator platform is used to assist disabled passengers to board and disembark from the aircraft. Passengers requiring special assistance should provide the details to their airline company, who will then inform the staff at Genoa Airport of the type of assistance required. Professional and trained staff members will be ready to greet you at the airport (if required) and offer assistance through the customs and baggage collection procedures. Assistance can be offered up until the time when the disabled passenger is ready to leave the airport.

Passengers arriving at Genoa can choose between a few transportation options for reaching their next destination. For those who wish to reach the train stations in Genoa there are a few bus services available. The AMT Genova Volabus travels from the airport, every 40 – 60 minutes, to the main train stations of Principe and Brignole. It also stops at the city center of Genoa. The first bus leaves the terminal at 06:00, and the last bus is at midnight. The Volabus offers a very cost-effective, comfortable and safe means of travel, and has a large luggage van for the transport of all your belongings. Another bus service available at the airport is the Shuttle Service I24, and these buses travel to the Sestri Ponente district, its railway station and the new Marina Genoa Airport. They are available approximately every 30 minutes from the airport. The first bus leaves at 06:15 and the last bus departs at 19:13. Thirdly, there is the Rapid bus link, which directly connects the airport to the Principe FS and the Brignole FS. These buses are available every hour. All buses are operational seven days a week.

Taxis are readily available from Genoa Airport. They are a more expensive type of transport, but many passengers agree that it is very convenient to drive directly to your destination in you own chauffeured vehicle, and the extra money paid is worth it for the comfort of the journey. Passengers arriving at the airport will also find many car rental companies in the arrivals area of the terminal. These companies include Hertz, Avis, National, Alamo, Easycar, Sixt and Budget. They all offer quality vehicles at affordable rates, as well as extra equipment to hire such as baby safety seats and satellite navigation systems.

Besides from the Sheraton Genova Hotel, which is situated on the airport grounds, there are many hotels in the nearby vicinity of the airport. The Columbus Sea Hotel, Novotel Genova Ovest Hotel, Ramada Hotel and Suites and Savoia Continental Hotel are only three miles away. Cheaper accommodation is offered nearby the two train stations in Genoa, but hotels of a higher quality can be found on the western side of the Stazione Principe, as well as in parts of the Old Quarter. Other popular hotels in Genoa include the Astoria, which is a three-star hotel on Piazza Brignole, the Grand Bristol Palace, and the Carletto on Via Colombo. Visitors of Genoa who would like a hotel near the waterfront may enjoy the Jolly Hotel Marina on Ponte Calvi. Many hotels and other accommodation facilities offer complementary transport to and from the airport. Perhaps find out from your hotel if this option is available. Usually these services must be booked in advance.

Passengers arriving at Genoa will be greeted by a warm, Mediterranean climate, with the summer months hot and dry, and the winter months a little cooler. Most of Genoa’s rainfall is received during autumn and the early months of winter, from September to November, but there is always plenty of sunshine to enjoy at any time of the year.

Further information about the airport can be obtained from the information desks within the terminal building, and tourist information is provided by the reception desk, which is open from 09:00 to 13:00, and again between 13:30 and 17:30, Monday to Sunday.
