Getting to and from Rimini Airport (RMI)
Rimini International Airport is located 8 km from the city center of Rimini, and 11 km from the new fairground in Rimini Celle. This area of Italy is considered to be one of the most important holiday resorts in Europe, and as a result, this airport is a major tourist gateway. Rimini Airport is also known as Federico Fellini Airport, a name derived after a famous Italian filmmaker, or Rimini-Miramare Airport, as it is actually situated in Miramare.
Rimini Airport is well connected to its surrounding areas by a few major highways and motorways. The most important of these are the A14 motorway, Highway E45 and the Main Road 16 Adriatica.
Motorists who would like to travel to Rimini Airport from Bologna should use the A14 Motorway, which is also known as the autostrade del mare, and exit at Rimini Sud. Travelers from Ancona should also use this motorway, and exit at Riccione.
Passengers traveling from Ravenna should use the Main Road 16 Adriatica, and from Perugia, motorists can travel on the Highway E45. The airport can be reached from inland areas such as San Marino from the SS72.
Rimini Airport has a single terminal building which has multiple levels, and has all the passenger amenities required for an international airport. There are many shopping outlets within the terminal, including a duty-free shop on the first floor. The shops sell a range of various items, from tobacco and newspapers to clothing, jewelry and accessories. A good selection of dining opportunities is also available, with a choice of various bars and cafes, as well as a large restaurant situated on the ground floor, offering meals to satisfy any passenger’s taste. Banking services are available on the ground floor as well, including a full-service bank and a few ATMs for more ordinary banking transactions. Various facilities are located on the first floor of the airport terminal, such as a first aid station, travel agencies and self-service catering facilities.
Federico Airport is fully equipped to handle and welcome disabled passengers, or persons with reduced mobility. There are disabled toilet facilities, elevators to provide easy access to all the airport levels, pavement ramps and dedicated parking areas which can be used free of charge. Special assistance can also be provided by the airport staff for these passengers. Passengers in need of help can provide their airline company with the details of their requirements when booking their flight. The airline company staff will then ensure that there is someone to assist you within the airport terminal. Departing passengers will be assisted with the processes of checking-in and the security control procedures, while arriving passengers will be assisted with customs and baggage collection. Assistance is provided up until the disabled passenger has safely boarded the aircraft, or until he/she has left the airport. Boarding of the aircraft is made as easy and comfortable as possible with a special lifting device, referred to as an ambulift.
Passengers who would like to travel to Rimini Airport have various transportation options. There is public bus which travels from the railway station in Rimini to the airport every half an hour. The buses are operated by Rimini Tram, and the bus which travels to and from the airport is number 9. There is no actual train station at Rimini Airport, therefore passengers who are arriving in Rimini by train should use this bus to reach the airport. There are plenty of taxis in Rimini as well. Taxi ranks can be found at Piazzale C. Battisti, which is the location of the main train station, Rimini Fiera (the Trade Fair), Rimini Hospital, Corso D’Augusto (Viccolo Gioia – Via Serpieri), Corso D’Augusto (Piazza Cavour), Via IV Novembre (Piazetta Teatrini), Piazza Tripoli, the Miramare Railway Station, and at Veserba. Many passengers find the taxi service to be quick and convenient, even though the trip will be more expensive than the bus services.
Passengers and visitors at Rimini Airport can make any general enquiries at the Information Desk located within the airport’s terminal building. Rimini Airport has an official website as well, which offers plenty of useful information about the airport’s services, facilities and flights.
