Getting to and from Trieste Airport (TRS)
Trieste Airport is located approximately 21 miles, or 33 km from the city center of Trieste, in Venezia Giulia. This airport in north-eastern Italy is also known as Ronchi dei Legionari Airport, or Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport, due to its location. It is situated in Ronchi dei Legionari, as well as close by to Begliano, Monfalcone, Cave di Selz, Staranzano, Dobbia and Fogliano Redipuglia. Although a smaller airport in Italy, only handling around one million passengers per year, Trieste Airport is an important gateway to this region. Driving to the airport is relatively easy, as it is surrounded by a few major roads and motorways.
Directions to Trieste Airport
Motorists can easily access Trieste Airport from the dedicated 1.5 kilometer dual-carriageway that is linked to the A4. The A4 is the major Venice-Trieste motorway. From the A4, drivers should use the Redipuglia-Monfalcone Ovest Exit near Ronchi dei Legionari, from where signposts to the airport show the way.
Other important roads nearby the airport include the SS 202 to Triestina, the SS 15 Via Flavia to Koper, Slovenia, and the SS 58, or Carniola highway to Ljubljana, Slovenia. The A23 is used when driving in from Udine.
Facilities at Trieste Airport
Trieste Airport consists of one large terminal building which has the capacity to handle up to two million passengers per year, although to date this number has not yet been reached. Although it is not a large Italian Airport, Trieste has all the facilities required by arriving and departing passengers. For all banking needs, a branch of the CASSA DI RISPARMIO DEL FVG (Bancomat) is available, as well as ATMs which are open 24 hours a day. The bank itself is open from Mondays to Fridays, between the hours of 08:05 and 13:35, and again from 15:00 to 15:30. On Saturdays it is open from 08:05 to 11:30.
The IATA air ticket office in the airport issues tickets to most of the worldwide destinations served by the airline companies, and is open every day from 05:35 to 19:00. It can also be open if there are scheduled departure flights operating outside of the usual open hours. There is even a VIP Lounge at Trieste Airport, which offers a comfortable and relaxing environment for all those who want to work in peace or just take a break from the hustle and bustle of the airport. It is a 120 square meter area, equipped with a self-service bar, and a selection of complimentary snacks and refreshments, as well as newspapers, magazines, TV and dedicated toilets. The FVG Lounge can be found nearby the boarding Gates 8 and 9, on the airside of the airport, after security control. The lounge can be accessed by members of the FVG Club, Priority Pass program members, Airport Angel program members and Alitalia/AirOne and Air France CIPs (according to the airline’s instructions). Passengers may also purchase access to the lounge at the ticket office.
The FVG Club is an abbreviation for the Fly Very Good Club, and is a specially designed frequent flyer program, and specifically for the most valued users of Trieste Airport. Members of the FVG Club enjoy many benefits at Trieste Airport, such as free and unlimited access to the VIP Lounge, a discounted six-month parking rate or half price off the standard car parking rates, a specially reserved area of the P2 car parking lot, telephone check-in, half price for the conference center and meeting rooms, and discounts and promotions offered by other program partners.
Trieste Airport also offers business passengers the opportunity to make use of their meeting rooms and/or conference center. There are two meeting rooms at the airport, each seating up to twelve people, and with equipment such as a plasma-TV screen that is compatible with a laptop PC. Bar and catering services may be ordered as well. The conference center is found on the top floor of the terminal, and has a capacity of around 90 people. It also features modern pieces of equipment to facilitate various functions.
Trieste Airport is fully equipped for the arrival and departure of disabled passengers, or reduced mobility passengers. The airport has dedicated parking spaces, assistance call points located in the parking areas, disabled toilet facilities, pavement ramps and elevators for access to upper floor levels of the terminal. Further assistance can be arranged with your airline company at least 48 hours in advance of your departure flight.
Passengers who do not want to drive their own vehicle to Trieste Airport can arrive by bus or taxi. There is no train station at the airport. The coach service No. 51 travels between Trieste Airport and the Central Bus Station in Trieste, as well as from Udine. It also provides a service between the airport and the Monfalcone railway station about 5 km from Trieste Airport. Other bus services arrive from Gorizia and Grado as well. Taxis are available from the central bus and train stations, or from the main public areas in Trieste. They can also be called to come and fetch you from your location.
Further airport information is available at the information desk in Trieste Airport’s terminal building.
