Trieste Airport Arrivals (TRS)

Trieste Airport is located approximately 21 miles, or 33 km from the city center of Trieste, in north-eastern Italy.  It is also commonly referred to as Ronchi dei Legionari Airport, or Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport, due to is location in the town of Ronchi dei Legionari, in the Province of Venezia Giulia.  Trieste is the capital city of the area, and also the largest city in Venezia Giulia.  Although Trieste Airport is smaller than many other Italian airports, it handles just over a million passengers per year, and is an important gateway to this region of Italy, serving a catchment area of around five million inhabitants.  Trieste Airport is also located nearby the borders of Croatia and Slovenia, Begliano and Cassegliano, as well as many other prominent areas. 

Passengers arriving at Trieste Airport will find one large passenger terminal, which is served by various airline companies.  Alitalia and Ryanair are the main carriers for Trieste Airport, with destinations such as Genoa, Milan-Linate, Naples, Birmingham, Cagliari, London-Stansted, Trapani and Valencia.  Other airline companies at the airport include Belle Air, Jet Airways and Lufthansa, operated by Air Dolomiti. 

The passenger terminal is well equipped for arriving passengers with a variety of facilities.  On the landside of the terminal there are banking services and a couple of ATMs available, as well as a post office with an ATM.  The post office is located in the arrivals hall, and a post-box is nearby the security checkpoint before the airside departures lounge.  There is a main airport bar for refreshments on the top floor of the terminal building, open every day from 06:00 to 21:00, as well as a self-service restaurant located nearby.  The restaurant offers a variety of tasty dishes for lunch and dinner, between the hours of 11:00 and 15:00, and again between 18:00 and 21:00.  Vending machines are available throughout the terminal for easier snacks and drinks.  The landside shop is located in the departures area if you have time to spare, selling wide range of items such as souvenirs, newspapers, magazines and books.  Wireless internet connections are provided as a pay-per-use service from Linkem. 

Trieste Airport has meeting rooms and a conference center for business passengers who need to conduct more private functions at the airport.  The meeting rooms have a capacity for twelve people each, while the conference area can seat up to ninety people.  One of the meeting rooms is equipped with a plasma-TV screen which can be used with a laptop computer.  The conference room also has many facilities such as a microphone and voice recording system, PC projector, satellite TV and other audio-video and multi-media devices.  Bar and catering services can be booked for the meeting and conference venues.  A hospitality desk can also be rented from Trieste Airport to provide a professional greeting to your delegates and guests in the arrivals hall.  This service is available for tour operators or travel agencies as well. 

In the unfortunate case that your luggage goes missing or is damaged, you should make use of the Lost and Found services at Trieste Airport.  If your checked baggage does not arrive, you should immediately proceed to these offices in the arrivals hall, and report the incident along with your bag receipt sticker and air ticket.  Your details will then be handed over to the automatic worldwide baggage track and trace systems, and you will be notified by SMS on your mobile phone when your baggage has been found.  Damaged baggage should also be reported immediately to the Lost and Found counter.  You will then be required to complete a damage report form in order to receive a refund for the damaged luggage item.  Refunds for damaged bags should be reported within seven days, and mishandled bags should be reported for refunds within 21 days of the bag delivery date.  The Lost and Found offices also keep all other items that may have been misplaced at the airport. 

Reduced mobility passengers and disabled passengers are well catered for at Trieste Airport, as it is equipped with disabled toilet facilities, four assistance calling stations, the Sala Amica, which is a waiting room dedicated to PRM passengers, an ‘Ambulift device for wheelchair disembarkation and specially trained staff to assist such passengers.  Assistance can also be arranged with your airline company at least 48 hours in advance of your departure flight.  Staff at Trieste Airport will then be prepared for your arrival, and will assist you through customs and the baggage reclaim procedures. 

Once you are ready to leave Trieste Airport, you will find a variety of transport options available.  Buses regularly depart from the airport to locations such as the Trieste Central Bus and Train Stations, Monfalcone Railway Station, Udine, Gorizia and Grado.  There is no train station at the airport, therefore passengers continuing their journey by train will need to use the bus services to reach the railway stations.  Taxis are available to any destination from outside the arrivals area, and there are many quality car hire companies in the arrivals hall as well.  Many people prefer to have their own rented vehicle in order to explore Trieste and its surrounding areas. 

Arriving passengers will find the nearest hotels to be the Holiday Inn Trieste Duino and the Novo Hotel Impero, while many other hotels are located in and around the center of Trieste.  Further information is available from the Tourist Office at Trieste Airport (Turismo FVG), or from the general information desk in the terminal building.
